It’s Thanksgiving and although we all love this holiday, some people dread the idea of having to spend time with “The Family” today. There may be some challenging relatives to deal with or some old negative emotions may come up. If this happens, remember:
1. Hold in your mind and in your heart that you cannot “fix” other people or correct past situations – its done. The only person you can “fix” is yourself and the only thing you can correct is how you react to challenges right now. This is great news! It means that you get to decide what kind of holiday you have this year.
2. Be thankful. Obvious, especially today, but not always easy. Especially when dealing with past hurts. Be thankful for the opportunity to be with your family today, to be able to forgive, to move past whatever happened or was said in the past. It’s all a growing and learning process. Be grateful for the opportunity to grow and better yourself.
3. Laugh. If you look closely enough, you will find that there is always plenty that you can laugh about.
4. Stay in the present moment and forgive the past. Forgiveness does not mean that it was ok. It means that you have let “it” go and chosen to move forward. You no longer get angry or sad when you think of “it”. This is the best gift you can give to yourself. Live in the moment and enjoy.
~ Happy Thanksgiving~
